Getting Started

Consultation

Our first step in creating your unique custom jewelry piece will be to schedule a consultation. This can be done via email, phone, or video. During our consultation, we'll take the time to discuss your design idea, personal style, budget, and timeline.

Budget

To ensure that we deliver a custom jewelry piece that meets your expectations and preferences, it's important that we establish a budget that works for you. Custom fine jewelry projects generally start at $1000, but I understand that everyone's needs and preferences are unique. I am committed to making my work accessible to a wider range of clients, offering payment plan options and budget-friendly metal and gemstone choices that will suit your needs without compromising quality or style.

Timeline

Custom projects on average take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks from finalizing the design to delivery.

Metals

For your custom jewelry project, I offer a range of metal choices. You can select from classic options like sterling silver, yellow gold, or white gold, with additional metals available upon request. During your consultation, we'll discuss all of the available options to help you make the best decision for your project.

When it comes to gold, there are several karat options that are designed to create a more durable metal and reduce the overall price. This is achieved by mixing 24k, or solid gold, with other metals to create an alloy. The two most popular choices are 14k and 18k gold.

With 58.5% solid gold, 14k gold is the most popular option as it is more affordable and durable. On the other hand, 18k gold is a bit softer and more yellow in color, boasting a higher concentration of solid gold at 75%. Regardless of your choice, we'll help you select the perfect metal to bring your custom jewelry piece to life.

Gemstones

Gemstones are an essential component of many custom jewelry pieces. During the design process, I'll be your guide, helping you choose the perfect stones to complement your design and achieve the desired look and feel.

Additionally, family heirloom stones are welcomed, adding an extra layer of sentimental value to your one-of-a-kind creation.

Sketches and Renderings

Once we have decided on the perfect combination of metal and gemstones for your custom piece, I'll begin the design phase. Using your ideas and preferences as a guide, I'll create several preliminary sketches, allowing you to make alterations and refinements as we work towards the final design.

To help you better visualize your piece, I'll provide renderings and models of your jewelry, giving you the opportunity to see how it will look and make any final notes before fabrication begins.

Fabrication

Depending on your design, I'll use one of three methods to create your custom piece of jewelry.

Hand Fabrication

Hand fabrication involves using raw metal, usually in the form of wire or sheet, from scratch to form and build your design. This is where torches and hammers and pliers come into play.

Lost Wax Casting

In this process, I will carefully carve your design in wax. Once approved by you, the wax model is then transformed into a mold that will be filled with molten metal. After casting, your jewelry piece will be carefully cleaned and finished.

CAD

While traditional jewelry making techniques date back over 6000 years, I also offer modern CAD technology for creating your custom piece. With CAD, we'll begin by creating a 3D rendering of your design before creating a model for casting.

Delivery

Your custom-made jewelry will arrive fully insured, packaged in a fine jewelry box, and accompanied by a polishing cloth. I am thrilled to be part of your special moment, and want to make sure you receive your piece with the same excitement and joy as we had making it. Plus, I offer complimentary cleanings for the lifetime of your jewelry, ensuring it remains as beautiful as the day you received it.
